Joining information
How to become a member of the Company?
The membership of the Worshipful Company of Loriners is made up of Liverymen and Freemen who come from all walks of life, all of whom share an interest in the Horse and the City of London.
There are four types of member of the Loriners’ Company:
• Freemen
What does becoming a member involve?
We hold many events throughout the year and understand the constraints of committing the time to attend them. We are flexible and can fit around your other interests. However, the more time members spend with the Company, the more rewarding their membership becomes. We do ask members to attend as many events as they can to promote our Company.
How much does it cost?
On joining, there is a one-off ‘Fine’ (fee) of £1242 and an annual ‘Quarterage’ (subscription) of £311 (reviewed every year). There is also an expectation of an annual donation of around £120 (£10 per month) to the Loriners’ Charitable Trust, which contributes to a range of equine charities, including the Wormwood Scrubs Pony Centre, The Pony Club, The Riding for the Disabled Association and many more.
How do I take part?
Throughout the year there is an active calendar of Livery and Social events to attend, ranging from exclusive visits to the UK Armed Forces Equestrian Championships at Addington to Family Race Days in the Royal Box at Epsom and our Annual Banquet at the Mansion House.
How do I join?
There are many ways to join. For example, you may be a family member, you may be interested in the equine world, or you may have attended a Company event. Whichever applies to you, the best person to contact is the Clerk (clerk@loriner.co.uk) and he will advise you on the best route for you. Once you have submitted your Application Form and it has been approved, you will be able to join the Company. This involves being admitted to the Freedom of the Company and becoming a Freeman, after which, you can apply to the Chamberlain’s Office to obtain your Freedom of the City of London. Having received this, you will be eligible to be Enclothed into the Livery, in other words, become a Liveryman of the Company.
For further information about membership of the Loriners’ Company please contact the Clerk.
